Sorry for taking so long to blog about my last stop during my Easter trip. Had a super long 13 hours project meeting just to finish my project report that was due today. I think my group is too democratic. Haha.. We spent like 4 hours changing the language of the paper as every single sentence had to be analysed and every single change we make must be agreed upon. Interesting eh?
Anyway, dear bro, here's what you've been waiting for!
15/4/07 - 17/4/07 : Copenhagen, Denmark
Having had bad experience with the customs in Poland, Copenhagen was a great welcome and it provided that much need sense of security and relief. Yup, so we were welcomed to a wonderful Copenhagen!

As my bro had made a Danish friend during his exchange, he gave me her contact and we arranged to meet us. S is very nice, friendly, helpful and unbelievably rich. Haha.. So I gave her our flight details and she came to the airport to fetch us in her brother's MERCEDES BENZ. Haha.. Cool eh? That's our airport transfer wor! But super paiseh cos our flight was changed to combine with another airline so the flight number I gave S did not arrive in Copenhagen! And we only knew about it when we boarded the plane so we had no way of letting her know too. Poor her couldn't find our flight, so she went to the airport earlier as there was an earlier flight from Budapest and she was worried that we might be on that one. So paiseh! Gave her so much trouble..

And so, S fetched us to her place for a nice traditional Danish dinner. We had meatballs (which were better than the ones we ate in Sweden), two types of salad, a very very nice cake for dessert and wine and beer to go with the food.

After dinner, S sent us to our hostel. We stayed in Denmark's first skyscraper! We guessed that it used to be a hotel as it looked like one. Anyway, we stayed on the 13th floor and had a GREAT view.

The view from our window in the day and at night.

This is a row of apartments. S says that these apartments are only for people who work in the military so it is like quite exclusive kind.

If you don't know (like me), Denmark is the hometown of Hans Christian Anderson, the famous author of children's stories. And we visited the Little Mermaid statue which was erected beside the river. The mermaid you see here is the re-constructed one as the original was severely vandalised and the mermaid's head was stolen on two occasions. S says that the mermaid used to be on the ground but now she is placed higher on stones to hinder future vandalism.

S brought us around on the 2nd day of our visit in Copenhagen. The first picture you see below is her dad's firm. I don't know if I captured the right building as she merely pointed to that direction and said that's her dad's office.

(Spot the branded goods. Clue: it is all worn by the same person.)

We took a boat cruise along the canals and rivers of Copenhagen. There was a guide on the boat who explained some history and stuff to us. The last picture shows the Royal Yacht.
We had a traditional Danish cuisine for lunch at a restaurant which S's dad recommended. It was fabulous! The dishes you see below are called smorbrod a.k.a. open sandwich with hard bread and butter below and whatever filling you choose on top.

I guess we were really lucky as we got to see the Queen and her family on our first visit to Denmark! Unlike the Queen of England, the Queen of Denmark's birthday is not a public holiday. Anyway, there were still a lot of people at the Royal Palace waiting for her to come to the balcony to wave at her people. We got to see the Royal guards and police on horses as well. S says that it is very difficult to be a Royal guard as one would have to be very disciplined and pass many selection tests. One of her brothers was a Royal guard before.

This is the famous Round Tower in Copenhagen which was recommended by many guidebooks. However, we did not enter the Tower as there was actually nothing up there. Just the view of the city which we thought we could see better from our hostel room.

And the next day, we went to the Carlsberg brewery.

It boasts of the largest beer bottle collection. I didn't see the Tiger beer bottle though.

There was a stable in the brewery as well and I took a photo with one of the horses! Wish I could ride on it.

Like all other breweries, our entrance fee comes with free beers. We were each given two beers, one Lager and one normal beer. There were 8 different kinds altogether and since there were 5 of us, we took one of each kind and had 2 soft drinks.

There's a big amusement park in Copenhagen called Tivoli. I think the sign outside looks nice. We also have one in Gothenburg called Liseberg. Will be going there soon!
And so, we left Copenhagen and made our way back to Gothenburg by train. On the way, dropped by Malmö for a few hours which R and I went to the Lidl to get our groceries for the week and lugged them all the way back to Gothenburg. Haha..

I thought this was interesting. A vending machine for roses.

Me in front of a famous church there and beside a city sign, holding on to a plastic bag carrying our frozen chicken.

That's it for my Easter trip! Up next, London and Scotland.
